THANK YOU, RUMOR!!!!

Its about time that someone listed some of the great things about the Crik!! I grew up there, and although I was booted out in the mass out-castings, I have never regretted my wonderful upbringing! I think that if things were still taught like they were back in the days, no one on earth would want to take that away.....

But, can't "shoulda"....and anyway life is good no matter where I am anyway. It's a choice that anyone can make, no matter what their circumstances...(I learned that from my mother's knee out at the Crik) and I am so glad for the life I have now, as well.

Thanks once again for reminding us!!

I bet Short Creek Valley has the highest number of kids that can play an instument from piano and violin to band instruments. The singers that come from there are wonderful.

I also bet that the 12 to 16 boys know more about a vocation (trade) than any where around.

They are to be commended!

How smart are the kids in mathematics, computer programming and the hard sciences ?
Anyone plays chess ?
Anyone taking IQ tests ?

Just curiosity from an outsider.

A logical question:

If things there are so great and everyone so happy why is Warren Jeffs causing such confusion? Why has he siphoned off your money to build YFZ, South Dakota Black Hills, Mesquite and Mancos?

To borrow a quotation from Hamlet, "Something is rotten in Denmark."

Does an Utopia have such problems?

Singing and dancing for sure. I grew up there and there are very talented people. But truth be known, most the intellects are with the Centennial people. I knew alot of second warders that I went to school with that I considered geniuses. But, anyway, all in all, the people in that valley are more talented than the average Joe I would say.

What ever happened to that wonderful quartet that used to sing barbershop?

Anonymous said...

The wonderful quartet was told to stop by King warren. I guess he was mad cause they could sing better than him.

I agree with what you say about great cheese - Meadow Wayne has the best!

But cute dresses?

I don't think so!

Anonymous said...

Cute dresses disappeared once Warren started requiring women to wear tents for dresses.

Post a link to the file on this list.

You can email me if you need more help - I've done it before.

If you have it in NON digital format - you can do something simple like using a palm pilot to do a voice recording, then import that into iTunes (or soemthing like that - and export.

Would the spirit be " Jack Daniels" ?

OK, I heard jeffs voice, and I'm more than willing to give credit where credit is due - even to people like him.

But OMG are you joking - his voice was monotone and hypnotic and gave me the creeps.

Anonymous said...

His voice is creepy.I've also heard it. It's monotone to brainwash you. And the dresses are atrocious.

Anonymous said...

I agree. It is about time someone mentioned the qualities in the creek and among fundamentalists. There are some of the brightest, industrious, people out there. As for Warren, yes his voice is creepy.

Tents referred to the fabric, the the shape or amount of nakedness covered. What is so wicked about a rose or leaf on a dress?

That should say, "NOT the shape or amount of nakedness covered"

The fashions of America are modeled after the whores of Europe and look at the attaire of Young Girls in our school systems.
Modest is the key to chasity. Besides If I want to ware an ear ring in my lip or nose, what business is it of yours. If a young girl wants to ware a long dress and keep her hair from hanging leave her alone. I am appauled and agast to think of trying to get everyone to put a nose ring in their nose just because I do. Everyone Please be like me ok. It makes me so happy!!!

I have no problem with the dress code of the FLDS. If that is what they want to wear so be it.
It is what is in the heart that counts.

But it bothers me they think "everyone on the outside is evil."

I think the "apostates" who have left the Warren fold have figured out that people are people no matter where you are in this world. Some good and some bad.

All the good hometown things are gone from CCA. There is nothing social at all in the community, and even in the homes they have been asked to stop all music, entertianment, talk and even sex unless approved by WJ. How socially smart are these people? not very and they have no concept of most sports or intersts outside of work. As for the dress it matters not what someone wears, but to have it dictated to you is the wierd thing. He dictates uglyness all around.

All the good things mentioned have thier drawbacks.
* Industrious Workers
Saturday work project but only on things they are asked to work on. What about the people that need help but don't get approved for it. They can work for free on Saturday and live without comfort
* Best Volunteer Parametics and EMT.
talk about the rumor mill. Don't call or you will have your business all over town and to WJ.
* Best volunteer Fire Dept.
needed because homes aren't up to code. Keep on you toes
* Great Doctors
only treat the faithful. Doctor the records for WJ
* Great Dentist
charge an arm and leg for average service
* Great Food (Candy Shoppe).
lots of overweight women. Eating must be the recreation of choice
* Best Health Food Store ever
(Garden Gate)
consultaions are limited to WJ idea of health. Watch out Dianne or whomever is in charge now. You may tell someone something and be asked to leave for practicing with the occult.
* Great Raw Milk/Squeeky Cheese/Pepper Jack Cheese (The dairy)
When they have it squeeky is the best but never on saturday. prices are through the roof.
* Fresh Meat (Storehouse)
only for the faithful not the starving. High up people get the pick of the best and the rest get the left overs.
* Fresh Produce
if you can stand in line and not have a hole stared throught you because you look differnt than the masses. Hey you are the ones that look different. Not everyone out her is a slut. You are wrong agian.
* Homegrown Potatoes, Corn, Tomatoes (Harker Farms)
only for the faithful FLDS others aren't offered those things. Grow your own. WE do!
* Homemade Bread (Yum!)
make your own. The bakery at Albertsons is good too.
* Great Homemakers, sewing, cooking, cleaning, raising kids.
If at first they don't mind then beat the kids, call them names, tell tem they are wicked. destroy self esteem and then have 3 more too many to watch properely and make all clothing because nothing in the world to buy is at WJ standards of color or style. UGLY and covers fat real well.
* Most Brilliant Minds not cluttered with TV programs.
But, clutterd with the brainwashing of a monotone leader. Self righteous dominant and not so birllian when it comes to loving everyone. Socially retarded. Self governing non existent. Thats billiant!
* Talented Dancing, Singing
WJ stopped all of the above because being happy is a lack of the spirit of GOD
* Good Food
You can get it anywhere,even my house
* Boy's Crew (taking all the little boys 6-12 and doing community cleanup hoeing weeds, picking up trash) great program.
Boy going awol because they are worked too hard to spend time doing things they shouldn't. some treated good some not. What is your last name
* Cute Dresses
WRONG. not so cute, even ugly. Hair too
* Best Raw Milk (Finney Farms)
one I don't know about. Thats a drawback
* Beautiful Mountains, Canyons, Creek
ruined by overwhelming social issues and social crimes
* Close to Zions, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Valley of Fire, Tuacan
no tours of CCA or could add them to the list as oddest town in America.

I honestly don't think it's ok to judge one person as wholesome or a whore merely by the clothes they wear.

Clearly what you wear on the outside does not disclose the content of your character. Oh, you can try to guess - the one with the spike heels, and a tank top is a skank, and the one with the bun and the long wool dress is not.

But judge not - lest you be judged. You cannot possibly know the condition of their heart by such external superficial things as clothing.

Anonymous said...

You know, you really show your character when you bad mouth the good that people say. Why can't we reflect the good without you shooting it down? Being from the creek, I really appreciated this thread, it brought back some good memories until you reminded me of how awful it really is.

Street,
What makes you think god wears clothes? Why would she/he? If so, what is the design; Armani perhaps? Maybe Victorian England? Is it a dress? Is it pants? Does god where a suit and tie or does god wear the simple loin cloth and robe of Jesus? Nakedness was never a sin until Genesis and Saint Augustine placed the sin of nakedness on women for the last 2000 years. I wished I had 100 employee that were as gullible as you Street. I bet I could make them work for free if I promised they would go to heaven…

mess in-the-street (following horse parade)

Why don't you improve the overall appearance of the world. You and all your sodomite friends can get in one or two cotton sacks (think about how cozy you'll be!) and jump off Boulder Dam, downstream of Lake Meade. Just think, you could provide food for some starving alligator gar and add some mineral to the Los Angeles drinking water. Two worthy projects. Plus an added value, you can make something of yourself that the profit would be so proud of. Hang WJ's picture on the outside of each sack and print under the picture: "What, Me Worry," Then scream "Go Warren" as you sail through the air. If he's a prophet he'll save you from destruction.

Despite all that is happening in the Creek, everyone I have talked to or know said that they had a absolutely wonderful child hood. (I have not talked to any sexualy abuse person yet)

So if your child hood was so grand and wonderful as mine was, don't you think that it could be that way again?

Do you think that your children will feel that way about the way you are living right now?

rumor-has-it said...

So they say that every fouth generation they "Lose the Farm".

The kids are no longer interested in what the parents or grandparents dreams were and want to pursue their own...so maybe it is time for a change?

Reply to apple pie:

I am glad that neither you nor your friends with whom you have spoken have verbally expressed anything about having experienced sexual abuse.

That is so great to hear.

However, I work with many victims of sexual abuse who lived in Colorado City, Hildale and Centennial Park.

Please believe me, it has happened and it continues to happen.

You are lucky. And I am glad for that.

I have to disagree with you about Garden Gate. I am an outsider and always have been. It's true that I had a difficult time getting waited on in their old store. I even walked out once (one of the ladies came out and stared at me as I was getting into my car. I wondered if she thought I had stolen something) - but since they moved into their new store next to the old place, most of the people who work there have treated me wonderfully. Of course, they leaned towards natural healing. It's a health food store, after all. And when the town closed down, a friend of mine who lives in CC said that Garden Gate was not closed.

I don't believe that WJ is good for the people. I think he is very dangerous to their souls, but the people I have met I usually like. It is true that the only ones I have gotten to know well are the ones who have been kicked out, who have left WJ, or who live in CP.

I don't think every place on the list of good things about CC should be listed with a downside. I think, for example, that the dairy is great. I keep hearing rumors that it is closing. I hope it doesn't. I like the fact that it has raw milk and "raw milk cheese" that is uncolored. I also like the bulk food store. The people in most of the stores I go into treat me quite friendly and it is pretty obvious that I am not a "cricker."

Also, to those lurkers who are outsiders who think all of their tax money goes to the "twin towns:" Baloney! How much money is taken out for taxes that you don't get back? Also, I see a lot of people working. In the families I know, one wife often stays home with the kids while the other adults work, or the work is staggered so someone can be home with the kids. A bunch of lazy people sucking off the government welfare? I think not!

I like living here in Colorado City.

The red dirt is very unique. The land formations are interesting and become personal.

It has a feel of a small town but close to major shopping centers.

There are enough friendly faces to make living here endurable.

I think the place is salvagable.

ATAR_i said...

OTS - just because you add the ending 'eth' doesn't mean it's in the Bible.

God doesn't look at the clothing, everyone else judged Mary, but Christ said she had done more for him than any of them (when she washed his feet with her hair and the expensive oil).

She didn't come in the right package, but her heart was captured by God.

I understand that's a huge deal for FLDS or LDS, but honestly, I think it's a monumental error in judgement. Because you wear white, and are well groomed does not mean that your heart is in the right place.

MEN look on the outside - but GOD sees the heart.

Here, here. You go girl!

ATAR_i said...

OTS - you assume too much.

You assume because an anonymous poster states 'you go girl'

1. that they are male
2. that it is sexual
3. that I lust for it
4. that I assume that it is sexual

You have sexualized a very asexual comment - you attempt to paint both poster (who could be female) and myself the way that YOU SEE EVERYTHING (Not Us).

I myself didn't view the comment as sexual in nature, only 'way to go, I agree with you'.

I can only imagine how you would rip to shreads "Mary" if she walking into your town, or onto this blog.

ATAR_i said...

I probably don't know men as well as you do.

I probably don't know loose women as well as you do (for that matter).

I am not weaker - I am fairer.

And, I'm perfectly aware of when you are in my face (and so I am very forwarned).

I dont use the same vernacular as you do - and so the definitions and meanings you ascribe to 'terrestrial' and 'celestial' I equate to earthly and heavenly.

So yes, I do not purport to know everything heavenly, only a small glimpse - BUT that is definately NOT because I love the things of the world more. Until I am in Heaven with the father, I know I cannot conceive of it's wonders.

you talk in riddles. Carefull lest you be thrust to the pits of hell for knowing him not. Celestial, Terrestrial, or Telestial are all of him.

To: anonymous who posted on 5/26/2006 at 2:18 PM and others

My list of downsides came from my experienc living with the FLDS. It seems you are on the outside looking in. Your experiences may have been good but, Oh the bitterness of the truth. There are great things about all of those top things and there are hidden lies and underlying evils associated. It is nothing different that the Mayor lying to get trucks liscensed across the border. He just got caught. If he a hadn't it would look to everyone that they are law abiding because the trucks are listed as legal. So is my list the flip side of the coin. Pesonal wittness to those things.
I also know of a very honest and wonderful women from there that was kicked out for doing the same thing Garden Gate has done for years. The problem lies in the competion she posed, not the honesty of what she did. She was accused of practicing the occult because she helped people with natural healing. I know that if WJ got mad at Garden Gate it would not matter what they stand for they would also be accused. Its only an exuse to hurt people.

As for judging someone by their dress, no on knows the hearts of men/women by the way they dress, but they (FLDS) judge everyone not dressed like them. I just pointed out that it is ugly. I am sure some of them are pure in heart, but judging others is something I heard in almost every convesation, uless they were talking about men of esteem in the FLDS highest degree of glory.

As for women staying home to tend other mother's children, the innocent children are not treated equal and my family became back stabbing and selfish to each other. It became a dog eat dog world. Jealousy and deciet ruled the governing of other mothers children and that was not a happy childhood. There could be families where all children were treated alike, but few and far between.
As for welfare, Warren has made it so hard for anyone to make a decent living that welfare food is what keeps those innocenbt children alive, literally. How can you fault the mothers for getting everyone on welfare when it would mean the children starve if the didn't. Not having the children is not an option but a duty as and FLDS women. Feeding them is an afterthought. How sad.

To: mugwup
I use to pray for no crying,no more burdens to bear, no sickness, no pain, no more sorrow. I prayed to mortal God they made. I use to want to die because it seemed the only way out. Now it seems so radical and silly. I had a choice and did not know.

Now I reflect. Thank goodness and God I am alive!!!!
There is hope for the masses.

Pray not for no trials, but only to be strong enough to handle them. (And strong/wise enough to do something about it.)

Anonymous said...

It's naive to believe that we will escape trials in this life. Every day presents it's own challenge. Illness, money worry, troublemakers, children out of control, problems within a marriage, infidelity, theft, lying and so many other trials are a part of our every day lives.

Jesus reminds us "I will never leave you nor forsake you," trust in me. That trust has been my key to sanity for over five decades.

Up late in the night, I see. I think the more honest people eventually do see the light. It was because I refused to cave in to various pressures that I finally woke up. When I was FLDS, I flately refused to take any govenment assistance because I felt it was wrong to pay contributions to the bishop and take government aid at the same time.

There are others that are still honest, and if they keep it up, they will evenutally wake up.

Thank you for your input. I understand better now - and I have been told stories about pretending to be happy, as well as contention among different "families." I guess, though there may be some good things, the bad experiences can easily outweigh the good.

The bad does outwiegh the good because it involves innocent children being raised to believe they have no choice. Polygamy is not he real problem. If the families did not have an image to keep up to in the communitiy and they lived for what they thought God wanted instead of Warren, then maybe polygamy would not be so hard. All the rules make it imposible. Yes there are many families that dare not show how miserable they really are or be shamed. So many think they have to stick it out for God. It is very hard to be yourself and live under the FLDS fist Sure feels good to be out of it.
whew, that was hard to accomplish and is an ongoing learning curve.

ATAR_i said...

It's always difficult to see peoples world in a girdle, making decisions for their lives based on a false view of the world.

So, by God's grace many of the families you mention have no hideous problems, and enjoy parts of their life.

I watched my niece (after I left) make decision after decision to deny herself the things that she loved, wholesome good things, but she denied herself on a misguided sense of spirituality. She was happy, but she never really flew.

Unfortunately there was no time, she died. Her life was never her own, and it's a really hard thing to watch.

I just wish she could have had more, allowed herself some of the joys she could have had in her short life.

Had she grown up, my hope is that she would have been able to spread her wings, she might not have, and her small little world would have been what she had. She might have been happy, but I know someone like that could have so much more.

When you wake up, and you have nothing, no education, no other support system, nothing other than that little unhealthy place - that little unhealthy place looks mighty appealing.

Checkmate, OTS.
How many games are you going to lose before you wise up and play the game right? Rules to winning: One - never let anyone know you are upset.
Two - never be phony, like pretend to be nice or kiss up.
Three - Use courtesy at all times.
Four - Use scriptures and arguments that are logical.
Profanity and insults show an unintelligent mind. You say it because you are not smart enough to think of anything more intelligent ("you" meaning people in general).

If you use contention or let contention use you, you have lost the game. In spite of what you have said in some of your posts, God is not a person who delights in profanity and attack. He is just and kind and loves all of us. You are not showing Him as he really is when you tell people that he is on your level of profanity and anger. Guess what? God loves the "gentile," the "Jew" and the FLDS. He will answer sincere prayers from all of his children - but only if they are willing to hear His voice. If we are so caught up on our soap box or podium that we cannot or are afraid to hear what He is saying to us, we cannot hear what He wants us to know. I feel for you, OTS. You are so full of contention and anger and fear that I am so glad I don't live in your skin.
