Placement Marriage

In the FLDS religion, placement marriage, by the prophet is the norm. Young girls ask to get married and are placed on a list. Young men come in and also get placed on a list. There is no dating. The biggest social interaction is a dance or ball game. But even that has been removed with Warren Jeffs administration. Now the girls don't even come and get on a list, the parents, friends anyone can put their name on the list.

I think that Placement Marriage is the main reason that Warren Jeffs has a hold on the FLDS. What the prophet seals on earth will be sealed in the heavens, and their version is whatever he seals he can undo. Because of this he has the power to destroy families. Placement marriage takes away the freedom of choice and letting people make their own decisions.

I was third to the last in my class to get married. My father wasn't to anxious to put me on the list and I wasn't brave enough to do it myself. I was 21 and recommend to anyone thinking of getting married to wait. Not only is it a big responsibility but it really ties you down. Having a job and going to school is fun and good balance to life.

I remember someone telling me "You don't know what life is until you get married."

I know what married life is...it's great.

So is being 16 and having keys to a car and money to go to town and freedom.
