FLDS Prophet Warren Jeffs may be serving life in prison, but his followers continue with their work on the YFZ Ranch near Eldorado, Texas where the group's white limestone Temple towers over the town they are building. Polygamy, the practice of plural marriage, appears to be alive and well in the Lone Star State, despite laws to the contrary.
Remember this thread. Boy didn't we have a good time with this one. I just wanted to remind everyone that we weren't always arguing - we were sometimes 'casting'!
My girls went to their first fair this year, I was out there for 4 days having a ball. I felt quite hickish. I attached the car, truck, camper, trailer keys to this hiking hitch on my beltloop, wore the Georgia boots, and was the first one to open up the large barns every morning (this is not my forte).
Anyhow - the horses did well, the outfits worked fine, and the girls had fun!
What have you been up to? I'm traveling a lot this coming year, more than usual, and I've taken on a secondary position - so I'm working quite a bit more.
I stopped blogging for a few months in spring, and then came back.
Stinger - did I ever tell you my uncle has two wives? Probably not.
This year I also learned I had relatives at Nauvoo whey back when. I almost plotzed when I realized I have LDS roots. They broke off with others to form a different branch of LDS, with Smiths wife and son, but those relatives were apparently not very faithful to that branch either - as I grew up protestant, and never even knew about the LDS history until now.
That's not why my uncle had two wives, I just don't think he cared for the first very much, and when he traveled, he went and got himself another. There was no communal living involved - nothing polygamous - just plain old boring bigamy.
My friends at school got a hoot out of it though - it made great dinner conversation where I live.
Interestingly enough - that ex LDS some from that branch of the family tree settled not far from where you are, so I visit Kootanai County every now and again.
Many years ago a distant cousin made an offhand remark about up north, and 'everyone being married to their cousin'. I'm still not certain if she was talking about just people in the sticks, or perhaps....
I didn't realize you'd lost the rodeo ground and the barn - I'm glad you can put it back to good use now. If there's ever a photo of the resorations - would you post it somewhere and send a link.
Congratulations on your new daughter - How many kids in school this year?
Stinger: I loved that video. It reminded me of all the good, clean, fun we used to have growing up in CC many years ago. The fire on the motorcycle jump was the best! That is the kind of fun you could never have playing a video game.
I miss Stinger!
ReplyDeleteDid you get gored by one of those bulls, or are you just too busy : (

I don't recall if I've seen the barn, but I've seen some lovely barn restorations.
ReplyDeleteAre you guys still doing the Rodeo - I hope that tradition hasn't come to an end.
Sounds like you might have turned in your clown outfit for a helmet and leather.
How is your wife and the kids?

Stinger, did you read my 9/11 post. Your group doesn't feel that way does it. My gut tells me no, but I want to confirm.
