He's a coward like Saddam; hiding in a hole!

Yes he's a coward, but if he's hiding in a hole, it's a luxurious hole. Wouldn't be surprised IMO that Jeffs is hiding out in a posh apartment in the basement of "The Temple of Doom" at YFZ.

Here's what a British newspaper has to say about Warren Jeffs. "A showdown in Texas would be the most exciting final chapter, and may well be what Warren has in mind - a tense, long-drawn stand-off on prime-time television ending in a gunfight in which he is shot to pieces by federal agents."

Read article: The British are Talking

Article also qoutes Sheriff Doran in negative manner.

Dream on, Brits, you haven't met a Texas Ranger.

Excellent article - it does make our police force (Federal and Local) not appear especially adept. But these are questions I have asked myself as well.

First, the group was absolutely ignored after 1953. Then, even when abuses by law enforcement, and complaints surface - they (police/political authority from the area) turned the other cheek. When they actually knew where he was, they still weren't certain what to do. Even when he went into hiding, they assumed he'd resurface. Unfortunately, now they can't find him - or I'm beginning to believe that.

I'm rather embarrassed about the whole thing anyhow. I mean, how in Gods name does a US citizen, on a street in the US, just driving through, or walking, get harrassed by the police and escorted out of town. Make that citizenS - this happened over and over and over again - AND NOBODY DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT!

If there is a bloodbath, warren jeffs is not the only culpable soul, all the people with authority in the states of Utah and Arizona who listened to dozens of complaints and did nothing helped build the altar.

I do appreciate that law enforcement is now legally building a case against wj. It is a step in the right direction, and those who are doing this work I believe are tireless in this effort. I do think that Doran probably got a bit of a bad rap in the article. I'm certain if he could barge in, and fix it all, he would. He's found himself between two lines so close together he can barely move. Freedom of religion and the law.

Moving to far one direction is trampling on the civil liberties of individuals, too far the other and he's not upholding the law - YIKES.

A blood bath is the last thing that law enforcement want at YFZ. The Texas Rangers and Federal agents are plenty capable of such if they deem it necessary (Waco/Ruby Ridge). The standoff in Montana that happened later is an example of the alternative course and it was successful. I have a question. When does homeland security get involved with the WJ dilemma?

It is not inconceivable to believe that WJ will get a revelation directing him to begin the job of "cleaning up the wickedness" that exists in the present time (like the Lafferty's).

I would hope that WJ has more sense than to engage in wholesale murder. But then, when has common sense or reason directed Jeffs in any other pursuit?

Jeffs will have to give the first sermon in his temple. No other would be "worthy" enough. He will want to hear the ooohs and ahhhhs. He wants/needs the attention.

I think that what he could say at that sermon isn't as powerful as what he has "already" said.

And by then there will be too many people to have any type of capture with out someone getting hurt.

Jeffs is a wimp, but his Angels are not.

Who knows, maybe Jeffs has underground tunnels leading to the outside? Like a mole in the night.

Didn't Joseph Smith hide out in the hills for over three months? And Warren believes he is THE PROPHET.

I hope no one gets hurt.

It is the hope of the majority of the citizens of Schleicher county Texas that the Warren Jeffs capture will take place without any violence. I have read on other threads that Sheriff Doran is not doing his job. He has a force of four officers to work a county that is approximately 30 miles wide and 50 miles long. They are busy doing law enforcement associated with keeping this countys citizens safe and the highways open for the passage of traffic. They have very successful in their ability to catch drug runners and persons who are under arrest warrant from other locations. YFZ in only one of the problems faceing Doran. So, my advice to those who are making judgements as to the sheriff's department ability to enforce the law is get the facts before jumping to judgement. Remember, Jeffs is wanted on a Federal Warrant. He is on the FBI's 10 most wanted list. The FBI is a Federal Law enforcement agency working within the rules and regulations of the Department of Justice.

Believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Or more to the point, how did the Jews just walk through the Temple and get harrassed by Jesus Christ? This is just outragious, Jesus! JUST OUTRAGIOUS!

12:09 - I saw the videos, it's rather hard to dispute them (since they are pretty much similar no matter who is taking it).

Besides, I'm planning a drive through on my own, so I'll have my own first hand knowledge. And, if it happens to me, will I be lying if I tell you?

Care to make a friendly wager?

It was this type of behavior when Jon Krakauer was examing some hills for cliff climbing that got him interested in this people. Had they left him alone, he likely would never have written "Under the Banner of Heaven."

ATAR_i said...

Interesting - I didn't realize that is how his interest was piqued. Can you tell more about his experience?

Atari,

I can speak about my own experiences when I've driven through CC/Hildale, and Centennial Park. People act a little uncomfortable when I visit their businesses (the grocery store, dairy and gas station on the highway), but I've never felt as if someone was following me.

I've gone to the cemetary. No one came to the cemetary to see what I was doing or to intimidate me into leaving.

I have never been pulled over by the police in CC. I have friends who have been pulled over for speeding on the highway through the area, and some have been given warnings rather than tickets, but I'm not sure whether they were pulled over by the state highway patrol or the local police.

Although I've never experienced any harrassment, I'm not sure if a male outsider would have the same experience.

Atar_i, et al:

I've read Krakauer's interest was piqued long before his examination of "some hills for cliff climbing."

Consider this in the last paragraph of Krakauer's bio :

"As a child in Oregon, many of the author's playmates, teachers, and athletic coaches were Latter-day Saints. Although he envied the unfluctuating certainty of the faith professed so enthusiastically by these Mormon friends and acquaintances, he was often baffled by it, and has sought to comprehend the formidable power of such belief ever since. The upshot of this lifelong quest is Under The Banner of Heaven, in which Krakauer examines the nature of religious passion through the lens of Mormon Fundamentalism."

Anon 8/01/2006 9:01 PM :

I'd love to hear more of his experience, too.

Yes, and perhaps someone obviously taking photos. I'm curious wha the criteria for attracting thugs like glue.

atari- I would gladly wager. Just drive right in, get you some lunch at the candy shop, buy you some overpriced soda and chips at the grocery store. Smile to the ladies and smile at the children, and I will bet they will smile back. Say, Hello, how are you? and they will answer.

Of course if you find a "activist" to give you a tour, it will different story. OR bring a camera crew or even a camera and there will be a different story.

A year ago when all the news were in town because of the so-called "exodus" was supposed to happen. I talked to a couple of guys from KUTV who did not have cameras. I heard about it from them. But I refused to go on camera, because I watched how they clipped and chopped any interviews that were not "sensational"

Atari- go in the way i said, and then after an hour or so whip out your camera and watch us run for cover.

ATAR_i said...

No, I don't really want to take photos, I think I just want to go to the market, perhaps have lunch in town when I go.

onthestreet said...

Well, if you get the good ole-time FLDS religion inyu, you'll definately be out to lunch, and on the town. Just don't be a little piggie when ya go ta market.

atari- How bout that wager? Of course if you have a scowl when come in the wager is off.

Dont forget to go to the dairy, there is no better cheese in the USA.

If you are planning to see the Grand Canyon too, there is not a more photographed spot than the one 60 miles on a dirt road out past the airport in CC. It is called Toroweap, or Tuweep point. Increadible view. (google it)

ATAR_i said...

I can't scowl!

Is there still a dairy?

Anonymous said...

yes there is a dairy.

cant scowl? by your posts, i highly doubt that.

ATAR_i said...

Oh, I'm physically capable of scowling certainly. But I would never come in to town scowling at women and children.

I show a tad more chutzpah on this blog than I do in my average daily conversation.

Yes, but then your tad (poles) turn into a frog. Then people croak.

You are right, I don't read or understand corruption very well at all. I much prefer the Adamic, or the Aramaic, or as a last resort, the Hebrew tongue.
