Native Texan

Does anyone have any insight into why Warren Jeffs considered Texas an appropriate location? Just wondering.....

I believe some of the laws that the State of Texas currently has on the books was a draw for them to relocate to Texas, such as "what goes on behind closed doors is not the states business as long as it does not violate Texas State Law. The antisodomy law was struck down giving groups more freedom of choice in their personal lifestyles was (I believe) a real draw for them. As far as the choice to relocate to Schleicher County I believe the price was in the range they were looking for as they looked at several parcels in the West Texas area and choose Eldorado. The ranch was a former hunting retreat with a game fence around it and it sits in a valley so most of the buildings are hidden from view. And that’s the facts as I know them.

Probably more out of last resort and close proximity to Mexico. I mean, just about anyone could watch a police chase on TV and figure out if it was in Texas vs. say Los Angeles just by the ending. I'm thinking he's a little worried and I'm hoping Texas gives him good reason to.

Texas has a rich history of prosecuting folks to the full extent of the law - women and men. We're not known to be terribly open-minded either. Bad move, Warren!

Randy said...

Well, who DOESN'T want to live in Texas? It is a whole other country, after all.

Anonymous said...

Some people say that Warren Jeffs will eventually end up in Mexico due to all the pressure from the law that he's getting here in the states. Even if that does happen and he ends up leaving all those people behind (or even some of them), Eldorado will never look the same. Wish they had just stayed put.

Reply to Randy

If jeffs gets his way Texas will become a whole different "third world" country.

Apparently, y'all don't require a building permit or have zoning laws. That was probably a big one. They probably were also looking for a county with few enough voters that they could dominate the local politics if they ever had a need to. The low property tax rates would have looked good too.

Anonymous said...

How many voted in the last county-wide general election? And how many people of voting age do you think will live at the YFZ ranch (or claim to)?

How's that math work out?

I hope your county has the brains to get a list of registered voters in the Arizona and Utah counties they are coming from, and compare them to make sure they aren't keeping registered in both.

I thought Texas had high property taxes, but no state income tax....anyone? anyone?

Cheap land or:

It shall come to pass that Enoch shall lead the last remaining to a valley in the south.
There in the land of Enoch will the last tribe of Israel wait for the coming of the lord.

The compound in Eldorado it between the two Enoch ranches, in a valley ..in the south.

Apparently you're quoting something in the Mormon doctrine. What do these people have to do with Israel??

THE FIRST BOOK OF NEPHI
HIS REIGN AND MINISTRY
An account of Lehi and his wife Sariah and his four sons, being called, (beginning at the eldest) Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi. The Lord warns Lehi to depart out of the land of Jerusalem, because he prophesieth unto the people concerning their iniquity and they seek to destroy his life. He taketh three days’ journey into the wilderness with his family. Nephi taketh his brethren and returneth to the land of Jerusalem after the record of the Jews. The account of their sufferings. They take the daughters of Ishmael to wife. They take their families and depart into the wilderness. Their sufferings and afflictions in the wilderness. The course of their travels. They come to the large waters. Nephi’s brethren rebel against him. He confoundeth them, and buildeth a ship. They call the name of the place Bountiful. They cross the large waters into the promised land, and so forth. This is according to the account of Nephi; or in other words, I, Nephi, wrote this record.

Book of Mormon is based on this!!
Also Joseph Smith believed that the American Indian were the decendants of the lost tribe. Cool Reading!!
Best to insert in word processor and delete “It shall come to pass" because almost every sentence starts with it. Smith was and awesome snake oil salesman but he couldn't write worth a damn - Neither could Moroni..

http://scriptures.lds.org/bm/contents

Don't know anything about the Enoch stuff but it is plausible - Since Smith thought that the lost tribe came to america, divided after a generation or two and had a civil war.

The darker skinned ones won!! The last remaining pure breed of Israel fled to the south. The darker skinned ones became the American Indian ( a popular theory at the time).

On top being polygamist, this is an white supremacists cult!! With its bases in the Book of Mormon.

Every hear Warren Jeffs talk about the dark skinned spawn of satin??

You can still marry at age 14 (with parents consent) in Texas, and you can marry a step-parent. That along with the notion that in Texas you do what you want on your own land make it very attractive to a nut case like Warren Jeffs. Don't let them fool you into thinking that this really has anything to do with Mormanism, this is a cult of sexual liberation for middle aged men and that's all it is. They have latched onto their "Fundamentalist Mormon" label to mask what they really are.

Am I the only person who is thinking Waco and Branch Davidian here?

Anonymous said...

No, you're not alone in thinking Branch Davidians.

Anonymous said...

Warren Jeffs is either crazy or arrogant for trying to pull this thing off in Texas.

Don't worry, though, the good people of Texas will take care of him. I feel sorry for those who have dragged themselves and their families all the way south. It's sad that he has also extorted so much money from his followers to do it.

How much longer will his nutty rule last? Someone take this man away and put these people out of their misery.

why dont you pull your heads out of the gutter. the problem here is about a CRAZY leader who has gained control over some "beleivers" minds he is a wicked man but aside from being deceived the followers of this lunatic are great people it has NOTHING to do with religion or sex.so turn the lights on in your dark mind and try to see the whole picture. People are truely happy living this lifestyle so leave them alone , close your mouths and open your hearts. We as "outsiders"should only make laws that help us live "what we beleive" in a more quality way.

You can't have it both ways.

It is outrageous to expect that you should be able to live your life free of outside objections and interference while accepting the help (welfare, government benefits) that the rest of us pay for. The FDLS lifestyle is expensive to taxpayers and as long as you continue to place that burden on society you should just get used to hearing the complaints.

Not to mention how morally offensive it is to the majority of your fellow man that you practice plural marriage. The Bible clearly does not allow for that and neither does the government. That's why you can only have one "legal" wife and the rest have to be "spiritual" wives. Oh, and speaking of marriage, sex is a big part of marriage. Clearly they're having it or there wouldn't be so many children running around.

Perhaps you should advise your FDLS friends to go back to being more financially independent. Then the rest of us will have less to say about how they live.

To the7:08 pm post. You have obviously been reading. Warren was planning on takeing Uncle Rulon from us before he died,he was useing the Enoch story heavily in his sermons to establish credibility for this unprecedented move.Uncle Rulon died so he implemented the plan against Uncle Fred instead. Warren is extremely racist as you say. Draw a lateral line just above latitude 30 degrees north from Old Jerusalem to El Dorado TX.

Anonymous said...

to jb,
i totally agree with your opinion on welfare for the flds- if they cant afford to pay for their children they should stop (or atleast slow down) on having them. But of morally offensive you should take a bigger look at society - morals seem to be at the bottom of the totem pole. look at the divorce rate i'll bet the average man has had just as many wives as an average man in the flds , only difference is they've dumped them and their children instead of taking care of them all!

To add to that, What about all the money that is giving to the turtle habitat in utah we are so concerned about the plygs that we forget to look in our own back yard.Lets see, I don't love my wife anymore ,so Im going to devorce her and let welfare pick up the tab. But lets not talk about us. so Shameful. I wish this Blog site would get shut down ....I bet it would not be here if it was airing the vices of Monogamy..shut if off please.

Anonymous said...

What are the "vices of monogamy"??
Commitment, loyalty, sacrifice, trust, unity? Speaking of marriage, Peter said "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife (singular), and the TWO will become one flesh." Ephesians 5:31.
That indicates a profound bond between two people.

Anonymous said...

To 7:24:

In regard to monogomy. The natural propensity for primal man to act like the animal kingdom in social behavior has produced a divorce rate in excess of sixty per cent and is still climbing.

Maybe we shouldn't blame monogamy for the infidelity epidemic and unreal divorce rate, but what other social system predominates? And what about the abuse to children that is created by all these broken homes that leave kids dazed and confused about such poor parental modeling? It would be a great area for some social research, don't you think?

I THINK THIS IS WHY WARREN CHOSE TEXAS. THIS IS JUST MY VEIW. HE HAS NOT TOLD ME. SEE, I LOVE HIM. I WAS BEING ABUSED. I RAN AWAY. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN SHORT CREEK. MY MOTHER ALSO. SHORT CREEK IS COLORADO CITY AND HILDALE, BACK IN THE DAY'S HOMESTEADING WAS HONORABLE, AND NOT THEIFERY. WELL I RAN AWAY, FROM MY ABUSER'S. I WENT AS FAR AS TEXAS. I WAS TREATED SO RESPECTFULY BY ALL THE PEOPLE, I RECOVERED SOME FROM THIS ABUSE. I HITCH HIKED TO TEXAS BY THE WAY. WARREN WAS TOLD I RAN AWAY. IN TEXAS, I SAW THE OIL. IT REMINDED ME OF HOME. IT IS THE RAIN'S FROM MY DESERT, THAT FEED'S THE OCEAN, AND I WAS ALWAY'S CURIOUSE, WHY TEXAS HAD FAT COW'S. WHEN I ARRIVED IN TEXAS, I THOUGHT, HUM..... OIL. THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE FAT COW'S. IT JUST SO HAPPENS, THAT TEXAS AND IT'S COWBOY FANTSY LOVE STORIES USED TO BE A PART OF MY DAY DREAM'S AS A CHILD. I BEGAN WRITING TO WARREN JEFFS. HE SENT THE MESSAGE, THAT HE LOVED ME VERY MUCH. HE WAS WORRIED ABOUT ME. I WROTE BACK AND TOLD HIM HOW MUCH I LOVED HIM. I TOLD HIM OF THIS TEXAS LAND, WHERE PEOPLE COULD SAY NO TO DRUG'S, AND THE PEOPLE WERE NOT SO PREDUDICE. HE SENT ME A MESSAGE, THAT HE WOULD BUILD ME A RANCH. PICK A SPOT, SAY'S HE. WELL IT JUST SO HAPPEN'S THAT I HAVE A LLITTLE UNFINISHED BUSSINESS, I HAVE TO SETTLE. I SUPOSE WHEN IT IS DONE, HIS TEXAS RANCH WILL BE DONE. WHEN I CAME BACK HOME, HE WENT TO ARRANGE THIS RANCH TO BE BUILT. I WILL TELL ALL YOU GREEDY LIERS, WE HAVE NOT STOPPED YET. WE DO NOT INTEND TO LOSE. WE ARE THE ONE'S BUILDING, AND IN SPITE OF YOUR ENCREDIBLE TAX INCREASE, WE STILL ARE MANAGEING TO PAY IT, AND KEEP OUR TEN THOUSAND FAITHFUL HONEST MEMBER'S HOUSED, CLOTHED ADN FED. LETS BE AMERICAN, UNLESS AMERICAN IS TO LIE, THEN LET'S BE HONEST.

wha? can someone please interpret that last blog into english? what does oil have to do with fat cows? Warren definitely needs to spend some time with you and teach you how to write!

Anonymous said...

Yes, 8:03!

The system of monogamy cannot be blamed for the poor choices the people within it make.

How can a man within a polygamous relationship claim to be faithful to his wives? If someone else catches his eye, all he has to do is bring her in as another "sister-wife" and make it look all spiritual by giving her a title!

How foolish are these women to put up with these shenanagans?

How could they possibly consider themselves spiritually superior or pure to those on the outside when this is going on inside? They are no different than the men on the outside who cheat on their wives.

I would like to go off topic for a second because there is something I need to ask you Texans. Do oil fed cows taste better than Mad Canadian Beef? lol

well after leaving my desert, and going to texas, I came into amorillo. this was the barest place. There was oil well rigs. money is what people live off today. do the math. oil causes war. oil causes gas prices t o rise. oil causes war. look around you. people use money to control you. warrens followers love him. a man who would take care of his women is more honorable, than a man with a women he is just satisfying his anatimy with. get real people. there is not a man alive, who has had only one women. Oh, tho hypacrit, cast the beam out of thine own eye. He who is with out sin let him cast the first stone. The women who do not believe what warren teaches does other things. He teaches peace. I supose if a women wants to be a b---- a man does not have to listen. If a women choses to worship other wise, she usually does. they go else where. The united effort plan property, people: has always had people who hated them. there have always been people who wanted different and tried to bring it down. there is no deciet in this church. it is written in big bold letters, the condition of the property. you knew as an adult, you never owned the land. you agreed to the terms. It is cheaper to rebuild than to sue all your life and lose. It is of no consiquence that the government makes laws against religion. this making laws against religion is against the law.

anon. 2:59 a.m., You are running so fast after Warren that you have no time to see where you are going. If you think what religion you are apart of now is the same religion that Uncle Roy and Uncle John taught, think again. Warren contradicts the words of these great men daily, and every action he takes is an abomination in the sight of God.

Mad Canadian said...

To anon 11:36 If warren is such a saint, how is it that one of his mothers was pregnant before his father died and the rest before he was cold in the grave??? Most guys couldn't even think about sex that soon after their father died. Definitely not with his father's wives. And if he's not guilty of anything, why is he hiding. Even Michael Jackson dares defend himself.

Mad Canadian at 1:26 PM. Are you, by any chance, the author of a certain article about 15 or 16 pages long titled, “FLDS Member Shares Concern”? This appeared recently in the Kootenai Valley News, located in your valley. If you are the author, I would like to thank you. It was very refreshing. And to the point, although the subject you were covering was lengthy.

CC, I am not the one who wrote the article in the Kootenai News, it was a pretty insightful article though. I am just someone whose mother left her husband to chase after the higher teachings of good buddy warr.

Have you heard of the St. George Spectrum, Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, Arizona Republic, or the Eldorado Success? There's lots of places to get information about your situation from public sources or you can talk to someone in Centennial Park and get information about what's going on, you don't need to be ignorant of events that will affect you.

If Warren finds out through his gestapo secret service, just stay put and tell him to go to HELL like Art Blackmore did and be a man. Stand up for your rights and your family will respect you. Nobody wants to stay with a cowardly wimp so be a man and defend yourself. If you do, you'll find that you'll have more on your side than against you.

I am an oil man who happend to pass through Colorado City while on vacation. Stopped in the store there and found a product called Squeaky Cheese. It occurs to me that anon 11:36 might be onto something. If you gave your cows oil to drink instead of water, mabe your cheese wouldn't squeak.

Thanks uncle jedd clampett:

I've tried that Squeaky Cheese too. Pretty good stuff. Thanks for trying to lighten things up on this blog uncle jedd. If kicking people out of their homes and taking their family's away wasn't such a serious matter, everyone could get along a good deal better regarding a few religious differences.

Now that Warren's gone to Texas, things will be a whole lot lighter around here for sure. Our wallets are a whole lot lighter already. Shucks, we might even get so light we can be lifted up after all . . .

That squaky cheese may be the only redeeming feature of Colorado City.

To Native Texan,
Lets put it this way, if someone really special comes and tells you to go and do something, would you do it just because it was right, and you loved them enough to do it? I've been in colorado city all my life and Warren Jeffs only does what he is told by the lord. Most of all those who do get away are only cutting themselves off from the blessings they could have had.

To thanx from Short Creek, 11:07 PM:

Warren Jeffs only does what he is told by the Lord?

Where in the New Testament is it recorded that the Lord instructed anyone to take men's family's away and/or run off their children?

Where did the Lord ever teach that a man's home, family, business and entire life's work should be used as leverage against him in any way?

I think that it's time you re-examined your prophet and seriously consider who his lord is. If you make an honest search based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and princples of truth and decency, you will find that the lord of Warren Jeffs is that evil one who was a liar from the beginning.

Yes, I think we can all agree, Warren Jeffs certainly does receive revelations from his lord . . .

The 1:32 poster makes a good point. Would God contradict himself and compromise His unwavering character? Who are you going to believe - God or Warren Jeffs? If your answer is that they are one in the same, it's time for a noggin' check. Clearly they do not send the same messages.

I do think Warren Jeffs gets his marching orders from a supernatural being. Who but the devil himself would sanction the breaking up of families, the prostituting of wives, and the bastardizing of children?

Oh yes, Warren Jeffs has a boss alright.
